ThreatScan™: An innovative system for detecting impacts and leaks on pipelines through the use of sophisticated hydrophone sensors installed in pre-existing pipeline facilities. The main cause of pipeline failure is damage caused by external sources: in the United States and Europe, this accounts for 35%–50% of pipeline incidents that occurred between 1970 and 2001. Third-party damage, whether accidental or intentional, is particularly dangerous because it is often not reported at the time of impact, allowing the resulting defect to persist for months or years. The ThreatScan™ technology also enables detection of attempted product theft from pipelines.

Any impact on the pipeline surface generates an acoustic wave that propagates in both directions along the line. The ThreatScan™ unit receives the propagated signals in real time, measures the magnitude and timing of the waves, and determines the exact location of the impact. The processed signals are then transmitted to the Client/Operator control room in a short time, allowing prompt intervention.
